Gerber Scientific Announces Key Management Promotions

Doris W. Skoch Appointed Managing Director of Spandex PLC
Bernard J. Demko to Lead Best-Practice and Shared-Service Initiatives

SOUTH WINDSOR, CT – Gerber Scientific, Inc. (NYSE:GRB) today announced that Doris W. Skoch has been appointed Managing Director of Spandex PLC, a wholly owned Gerber subsidiary headquartered in Bristol, England. In addition, the Company said that Bernard Demko, Senior Vice President of Gerber Scientific, Inc., will assume additional responsibilities, including leadership of a group that will identify and implement best practices and shared services initiatives across the entire Company.

In her new position, Ms. Skoch, 58, will lead the global operations of Spandex, which is the world’s leader in supplying goods and services to the sign making industry. Ms. Skoch will be responsible for the development of a global product and market strategy for this business to support profitable growth going forward. Spandex has 20 offices in 18 countries serving more than 30,000 customers with high technology production equipment and consumables.

Mr. Demko, 43, will assume new responsibilities in addition to his role as Executive Vice President and Chief Operating Officer of Gerber Technology, a wholly owned subsidiary providing an extensive line of integrated computer hardware and software systems to the sewn-goods and flexible goods industries. These new responsibilities will include the formation and chairing of a new “Board of Operating Excellence” made up of the leadership of all of Gerber operating subsidiaries. The charter of this Board will be the identification and implementation of best practices and shared services initiatives in the areas of supply chain management, lean manufacturing, service, and aftermarket.

Among Mr. Demko’s top priorities will be to lead a task force with Spandex’s management team to ensure the subsidiary’s warehouse and logistics processes and systems achieve “world-class” efficiency. He also will assume leadership of the Corporate Information Technology Department in order to align business systems with the new operating priorities.

Similarly, the operations expertise Bernie has demonstrated at Gerber Technology and in previous leadership positions will be essential in his new role leveraging supply chain management and other best practices across the entire Company.”

Previously, Ms. Skoch was Executive Vice President and Chief Operating Officer of Gerber Scientific Products, Inc., the Gerber subsidiary that designs, manufactures and distributes sign making and related specialty graphics products. Ms. Skoch joined Gerber after serving as an independent consultant to Gerber Optical, Inc., assisting with its acquisition of Coburn Optical Industries, Inc. In 1997, Ms. Skoch was named as Vice President, Finance of Gerber Coburn Optical, Inc., the newly combined company. From 1984 to 1997, she served in a series of senior finance and operations positions at General Signal Corporation and its units. Ms. Skoch holds a bachelor's degree in accounting from Texas Tech University and an MBA from the University of Tulsa.
