SOUTH WINDSOR, CT - March 18, 2008 - Gerber Scientific, Inc. (NYSE: GRB),
a worldwide leader in
integrated automation solutions, including
the world's sign making and specialty graphics industries, announced today
that it has granted a worldwide license to a major Japanese printer
manufacturer. This is a non-exclusive license under the Company’s family of
patents based upon its pioneer U.S. Patent 5,537,135 [135 Patent] relating
to computerized "print to cut"
technology. Terms of the license are confidential.
"Given the market interest
in being able to practice this technology, Gerber has agreed to permit other
companies the opportunity to license these patents, further advancing the
industry as a whole. Importantly, it also recognizes Gerber's commitment to
maximize shareholder value through the licensing, and if need be, the
enforcement of the Company's intellectual property rights." said Marc T.
Giles, President and CEO of Gerber Scientific Inc.
The Company is presently
prosecuting an action for infringement of the
135 Patent in the Federal District
