Gerber Scientific Products and Spandex PLC to Operate Under Separate Leadership SOUTH WINDSOR, CT – Gerber Scientific, Inc. (NYSE: GRB) today announced it will reorganize its world leading sign making and specialty graphics business into two separate units under two individual leaders. The strategic move is aimed at providing the Company with a greater focus on technical innovation and manufacturing process at its Gerber Scientific Products (GSP) subsidiary and enable Spandex PLC to realize its full potential as a global distribution leader. F. David Jones, who took on the dual role of leading GSP and Spandex last September, will continue to lead Spandex and Gerber Scientific Chairman and Chief Executive Officer, Michael J. Cheshire will temporarily assume the role of President at Gerber Scientific Products until a search is completed to fill that position. Commenting on the moves, Cheshire said, "Over the past nine months the leadership of Gerber Scientific Products and Spandex PLC have worked as a team to gain a better understanding of the voice of the customer and the role that innovation plays in demonstrating market leadership. GSP revolutionized the sign industry with breakthrough products like the Signmaker® and GERBER EDGE® while Spandex PLC became the world's largest distributor of sign equipment and supplies by using a customer focused business model. We will continue to drive both businesses in a coordinated fashion while encouraging each unit to focus on what it does best." Cheshire continued, "The Company's emphasis on innovation is a winning strategy and our investment in research and development is resolute. More important, our technical staff is among the finest. This realignment of resources and leadership will serve to further foster innovation and ensure our market leading position. "Our focus on innovation goes beyond sign making to encompass our other businesses---apparel and flexible materials, optical lens processing, packaging, and point-of-sales communications. New products such as the Taurus™ leather cutter, Profile™ die tool production system, and Gemini™ optical lens system, are doing well in their respective markets. And, Gerber Innovations, our entry into the packaging industry, will soon be introducing another exciting product. Technical innovation and new product development will always be the lifeblood to drive Gerber." Gerber Scientific Inc. provides high technology systems and solutions that enable mass customization in diverse industries. Headquartered in South Windsor, Conn., Gerber Scientific is the world leader in three core markets – sign making and specialty graphics, apparel and flexible materials, and optical lens processing – which it serves through four wholly owned subsidiaries: Gerber Scientific Products, South Windsor, Conn.; Spandex PLC, Bristol, England; Gerber Technology, Tolland, Conn.; and Gerber Coburn Optical Inc., South Windsor, Conn.
