Gerber Scientific, Inc. Reports Annual Meeting Results

SOUTH WINDSOR, CT -- At the Annual Meeting of Shareholders of Gerber Scientific, Inc. (NYSE: GRB), held Thursday, September 18, 2003, the company announced the results of the following proposals:

In addition, shareholders approved a non-binding proposal submitted by a shareholder requesting the company’s Board to declassify such that all directors would be subject to an election on an annual basis. The Board is currently evaluating the company’s overall governance practices including whether or not to retain the current classified Board structure, and expects to complete the review process by calendar year-end 2003.

Mr. Giles, president and chief executive officer of Gerber Scientific, Inc., said, "We are pleased to announce the addition of John Lord and Randall Ledford, and the re-election of W. Jerry Vereen and Edward Jepsen, to the company’s Board of Directors. Each one serves in key roles at large, multi-national companies, and together bring substantial strengths to Gerber."

Mr. Lord, 59, was President and Chief Executive Officer of Carrier Corporation from April 1995 to January 2000, and continues to serve as the company’s non-executive chairman, a position he has held since his retirement from the company in January 2000. Carrier Corporation, a subsidiary of United Technologies Corporation (NYSE: UTX), is the world's largest manufacturer of air conditioning, heating and refrigeration equipment for commercial, residential and transportation applications.

Dr. Ledford, 53, is Senior Vice President and Chief Technology Officer of Emerson Electric Company and President of Emerson Venture Capital since 1997. Emerson (NYSE: EMR) is engaged principally in the worldwide design, manufacture and sale of a broad range of electrical, electromechanical and electronic products and systems. Dr. Ledford serves on the board of directors of Interphase, Inc. and Sterotaxis, Inc.
