Gerber Scientific to Preview the New Solara ion™ UV Inkjet Printer at SGIA SOUTH WINDSOR, Conn. - Gerber Scientific, Inc.’s (NYSE: GRB) Sign Making and Specialty Graphics business segment, Gerber Scientific Products, will preview its newest offering in the wide-format UV inkjet printer marketplace – the Gerber Solara ion – at the SGIA Expo and Conference in Orlando, FL on October 24-27, 2007. The Gerber Solara ion is the culmination of Gerber's expertise in the field of inkjet printers. Matched with Gerber’s new M3000 Series Digital Cutting and Finishing System, Gerber provides yet another powerful print-to-cut solution for the wide-format printing industry. Commercial shipments for the Solara ion are expected to begin early in 2008. "The new Solara ion has been developed to exceed market expectations for a wide-format UV inkjet printer," said Marc Giles, President and CEO of Gerber Scientific, Inc. "A truly unique combination of great speed, quality, and versatility at a low price defines the competitive advantage for the Solara ion." The Gerber Solara ion is built on a robust flatbed platform that also incorporates an integrated roll-to-roll system providing the best possible foundation for printing both rigid and flexible materials up to 1"/25.4mm thick, 64"/1.6m wide, and 120"/3m long. The printer also features Gerber's patent-pending, Cold Fire Cure™ technology. This unique UV curing process uses low energy and low temperatures to cure proprietary GerberCAT™ inks. At print speeds up to 639 square feet per hour in performance mode and resolution up to 1440 dpi in high-quality mode, the Solara ion rivals the performance of any wide-format printer available today, including solvent printers. Unlike solvent printers, the Solara ion offers genuine print-and-apply capability compared to a process that requires a 48 to 72 hour ink curing period. Gregory A. Wolf, President of Gerber Scientific Products, added, “This new process provides features in UV inkjet printing that are nothing less than revolutionary. Cold Fire Cure offers tremendous benefits over any other competitive process, including low cost of operation, superior adhesion to a wider array of rigid substrates, and both superior bonding and greater flexibility for flexible substrates. The Gerber Solara ion is one of the most versatile printers in the world. The versatility of the Solara ion opens the door to a huge set of applications such as real estate signage, POP, vehicle applications, backlit, traffic signage, exhibit display, banners, and textiles all through one printing system.” For a closer look at the new Solara ion, visit our special website at www.gerbersolara.com.
