Gerber Scientific Unveils First of Strategic New Products
Planned for Launch in Fiscal 2005

Gerber’s Best-in-Class Development Process Drives Strong New Product Pipeline

SOUTH WINDSOR, CT -- Gerber Scientific, Inc. (NYSE: GRB) previewed two strategic new products for its sign making and specialty graphics business segment.

The two new products—both from the company’s Gerber Scientific Products (GSP) business unit—were previewed at the Specialty Graphics Imaging Association (SGIA) ‘04 tradeshow in Minneapolis last week. GSP unveiled the XRT2500™ grand format, solvent inkjet printer and the SOLARA™ UV wide format, ultraviolet (UV) inkjet printer. While still in the testing stages, the company expects that commercial sales will commence early in calendar 2005.

“Reinvigorating innovation has been one of our four key strategic objectives at Gerber over the last two and a half years,” said Marc T. Giles, president and chief executive officer. “Our new product development process is now driving significant product and service innovations across all of Gerber’s operating units.”

Giles noted that the new SOLARA digital inkjet system is the first such system developed entirely ‘in-house’ by Gerber Scientific Products. The XRT2500 was co-developed by Gerber, working in concert with outside partners. These new systems will join the new Gerber P2C™ plotter and the OMEGA™ 2.0 sign design and production software to form a suite of inkjet solutions tailored for the sign making professional.

“Our focus is shifting increasingly toward actions to drive growth, with our three-year turnaround plan coming to a conclusion in fiscal 2005. The strength of our new-product pipeline and the growing vitality of our markets represent significant opportunities for Gerber Scientific,” said Giles.

Each printer features unique technologies and capabilities, the result of extensive internal development and reflects Gerber’s commitment to the production of innovative products designed to provide customers with the highest quality, most reliable and cost-effective solution available.

The XRT2500 and the SOLARA UV are part of Gerber’s Matched Technology SystemTM. The system assures users that the printers and inks have been validated for use with Gerber’s software, plotters and materials and have undergone accuracy, reliability, bonding and durability performance tests.
