GERBER SCIENTIFIC’S SIGN MAKING AND SPECIALTY GRAPHICS
SUBSIDIARY - Technologically Enhanced Products Target Small- to Mid-Sized Sign Making and Specialty Graphics Businesses in U.S. and Europe - SOUTH WINDSOR, CT, December 5, 2002 -- Gerber Scientific, Inc.’s (NYSE: GRB) sign making and specialty graphics subsidiary, Gerber Scientific Products, Inc. (GSP), today introduced two next-generation products: the GERBER MAXX™ 2 for large format thermal transfer imaging and the ODYSSEY™ XP for high-speed vinyl cutting. The new products were unveiled at the United States Sign Council Show (USSC) at the Atlantic City Convention Center in New Jersey, December 5-7. The MAXX 2 wide-format printer is a technologically advanced version of the original MAXX that offers the same versatility, ease-of-use and productivity, but is designed to provide higher quality images and more reliable performance. The MAXX 2 will begin shipping in the first quarter of 2003. Like the original ODYSSEY, the new XP version incorporates the company’s breakthrough GerberDrive™ material transport system to cut graphics quickly and accurately. XP enhancements include faster throughput, easier material loading and unloading, smoother tracking and more precise cut results. The XP replaces the original ODYSSEY, and began shipping in December. The ODYSSEY XP interfaces seamlessly with the GERBER MAXX 2, enabling images to pass quickly and reliably from computer to printer to plotter, and making it the ideal print-to-cut solution for the MAXX 2. Marc Giles, president and chief executive officer of Gerber Scientific, Inc., said, "The MAXX 2 is the direct result of an extensive program to improve the manufacturability of the original MAXX, and the enhancements of the ODYSSEY XP will accelerate both processing commands and data transmission, and improve material flow and guidance. The senior management team at Gerber is committed to driving innovation across all of its subsidiaries, and the launch of these new products underscores GSP’s leadership position as a provider of graphic imaging systems."
