GERBER SCIENTIFIC’S OPHTHALMIC LENS PROCESSING SUBSIDIARY
LAUNCHED SEVEN NEW PRODUCTS

- Diverse and Innovative Products Target Wholesale Laboratory Market -

SOUTH WINDSOR, CT, December 11, 2002 -- Gerber Scientific, Inc.’s (NYSE: GRB) ophthalmic lens processing subsidiary, Gerber Coburn, introduced several new products at the Optical Laboratory Association (OLA) Exhibition and Conference, Indianapolis, IN, November 21-23, 2002: the Eclipse Surface BlockerTM, Hercules high-volume, backside coater, Dimetrix finish blocker and lens verification device, Metrix-Lab lensmeter, DFS II surfacing pad system, enhanced SL2 generator, and GeminiTM for the CR39 process.

Ranging in scope from surfacing products to lens inspection devices, the new surfacing products challenge and streamline existing lens processing methods, while eliminating non-value added steps; and the lens inspection devices offer the latest technology in lens analysis.

Marc Giles, president and chief executive officer of Gerber Scientific, Inc., said, "Launching seven new products at one time is a tremendous effort, one that underscores Gerber Coburn’s commitment to the wholesale laboratory market. Gerber Coburn was able to accomplish this by first reviewing its product portfolio and development strategies then compressing its development schedules to accelerate the delivery of these new products."

John Hancock, president of Gerber Coburn, added, "These new products greatly expand the company’s extensive line of lens surfacing and finishing products and were well-received by OLA members who attended the conference. We are pleased by their interest in our products, and it was clear that we met the wholesale labs’ needs and expectations."
